Cristopher Cichocki has been operating on the fringe between the art and music world for years as a pioneer within an emerging genre of art known as “video composition.” Video compositions are hybrid video works generated through a symbiosis where both sound and vision co-exist equivocally creating a synesthetic experience. In the process of “composing” a video composition the typical video editing process transforms and excels into a highly rhythmic, precision-based musical exercise. Ideally, the end results of Cichocki’s video compositions are experienced in a live context viewed as large-scale video projections while the accompanying audio reaches intense volumes. Video compositions in effect induce hyper-levels of multi-sensory stimulation attacking the senses at strobing frame rates up to 30 contrasting frames per second. Rather than a traditional screening of the works in a theater, Cichocki literally performs these video works, utilizing the X-factors of intuition and chance within the live performance structure. Explorations of audio and video are manipulated through electronic instruments, most notably, a DVD turntable which activates Cichocki’s performances as an improvisation of sight, space and sound, live and direct.
Cichocki's video composition performances have shared the stage at shows including: HEALTH, Daedelus, Jogger, Dev/Null, Rumspringa, Halloween Swim Team, Cantus Firmus, Warm Climate, Duhka, Narwhal Party, Bad Dudes, White Mice, Foot Village, Rale, Kevin Shields, Nosa J Thing, Captain Ahab, Sword Heaven, Bryan Lewis Saunders, Monsturo, Killsonic, Sightings, DJ Scotch Egg, Grrrips, David Scott Stone, Dirty Branchez, Realicide, Amyeric Hainaux, Youth of the Beast, Anavan, Friends Forever, Kit, The Press Fire, Puppy Dog, Former Ghosts, Justice Yeldham, Alien Soundtracks, Daddy Kev, Nero's Day at Disneyland, Plank Tonic, Ezra Buchla, Unnecessary Surgery, The Racket Club Band, Cabinet of Natural Curiosities, Occasional Detroit, Wah Wah Exit Wound, Sikhara, Neon Navajo, Chief, Clockcleaner, and more.
